MISSIONS

Mission Statement

YLP will restore social balance within its footprint by advancing literacy including financial literacy so children will be successful in the 21stcentury.

Action Plan

The Youth Literacy Project is established to confront the problem of illiteracy among youth and adults particularly among the poor population and among black, Latino, and other ethnic minorities; through implementing (education, social and community partnerships) strategies aimed at improving the reading skills and the financial literacy of our young people.

ACTION POINTS

  • Identify Community Partners
  • Develop Outreach Proposal w/ Media Outlets
  • Re-engage YLP Volunteers to manage Book Drive
  • Develop/Adjust Implementation Plan at volunteer level
  • Maintaining an Annual Report Card
  • Develop Strategic Partner for Public Outreach Campaign

What a tremendous blessing it was to see all the books collected and then to have the kids get so excited about receiving them.

Get Involved in Literacy!

Children who participate in literacy programs improve their grades and test scores, improve their reading skills, and are less likely to drop out.

Ultimately, for YLP to have success there must be bold participation, contributions of time and resources and result measurements. To this end, we will continue to creatively confront illiteracy and develop solutions with supportive entities; private businesses and others already committed to improving literacy skills among our youth.

This has proven to be a benefit to the over 200 young people that go through our gates in the afterschool program, YLP added value to our services
